Orthopedic Rehab in
Lawrenceville, GA —
Evidence-Based Care for Joints, Muscles, and Recovery

Orthopedic conditions are the most common reason adults seek physical therapy. Knee pain that's making the stairs harder. A shoulder that catches when you reach overhead. Lower back stiffness that's gotten progressively worse over the past year. A new diagnosis of arthritis. A rotator cuff repair that's healed but isn't strong yet.
NexStep PT specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation — evidence-based care for the musculoskeletal system, from acute injuries to chronic conditions to post-surgical recovery. We see patients across Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, and the broader Atlanta metro area, with virtual sessions available statewide.

General pain, stiffness, and functional limitation — even without a specific diagnosis, if you're having trouble doing the things you want to do, that's reason enough to come in.
Our Approach
Orthopedic PT done well is a blend of skilled hands-on care, targeted exercise, and patient-specific problem-solving. The evidence is clear: passive treatments alone (heat, electrical stimulation, ultrasound) don't drive recovery. Exercise and progressive loading do.
Your treatment will be built around four components:
-
Thorough evaluation. A detailed history, a physical exam, range-of-motion and strength testing, and assessment of the movement patterns that may be contributing to your pain.
-
Manual therapy. Hands-on techniques — joint mobilization, soft-tissue work, manual stretching — to address restrictions and reduce pain.
-
Therapeutic exercise. Progressive, individualized strengthening and mobility work. This is the engine of recovery. Your therapist designs a program specific to your diagnosis, your starting point, and your goals.
-
Functional retraining. Putting the strength and mobility back into the movements that matter to you — whether that's running, lifting, gardening, or climbing the stairs at home without pain.
Treatment frequency varies. Acute injuries and post-surgical patients are usually seen 2–3 times per week. Chronic conditions and maintenance work may be 1–2 times per week or less. Most patients see meaningful change within 4–6 visits and significant improvement within 8–12.
What Makes Orthopedic PT at NexStep Different
A few things shape how we work:
-
One-on-one care. Your therapist works with you for the full session. No bouncing between patients, no aides running you through exercises.
-
We don't run high-volume schedules. Your therapist has time to think about your case between visits.
-
In-person and virtual options. Some conditions benefit from hands-on manual therapy at every visit. Others do well with a mix of in-person and virtual sessions. We build the schedule that matches your needs.
-
Evidence-based. We stay current with the orthopedic and rehab literature. Treatment approaches that don't have good evidence (passive modalities alone, generic protocols regardless of diagnosis) aren't part of how we practice.
-
Honest expectations. We tell you what we think your recovery will look like, what we don't know, and what to do if things aren't progressing as expected.
When to Come In
Don't wait. Some specific signals that it's time:
-
Pain that's lasted longer than two weeks and isn't getting better
-
A specific injury that hasn't recovered the way you expected
-
A new diagnosis (arthritis, tendinopathy, meniscus tear, etc.) and you want a plan
-
Surgery in your future — pre-surgical conditioning ("prehab") significantly improves outcomes
-
Post-surgical care your surgeon has recommended
-
Movement limitations that are starting to affect your daily life
Under Georgia's direct-access law, you don't need a physician referral to see a physical therapist for most conditions. We can verify insurance coverage and discuss self-pay options before scheduling.
